Nokia Group Leadership Team

Nokia has a Group Leadership Team that is responsible for the operative management of Nokia. The Chair and members of the Group Leadership Team are appointed by the Board. The Group Leadership Team is chaired by the President and CEO. The President and CEO’s rights and responsibilities include those allotted to the President under Finnish law.

Rajeev is a leader with a passion for creating value, innovation, and delivering technologies that have a positive impact on people’s lives. He has a deep expertise in many areas of technology, particularly telecommunication networks & devices, the Internet of Things, virtual reality, digital health, big data analytics, cloud computing, and internet business models. Since becoming the CEO of Nokia in April’ 2014 Rajeev has led the company through a series of major transformations including the €15.6 billion acquisition of Alcatel Lucent, the divestment of HERE, the planned acquisition of digital health company Withings, and the scheduled return of Nokia branded mobile phone and tablets. In his previous role as CEO of Nokia Solutions and Networks, he delivered a complete turnaround, increasing the value of the business from approximately €1 billion to more than €9 billion. 

In his more than 26 years of international experience, Rajeev has worked in roles comprising strategy and M&A, product marketing, sales, major account leadership, regional and business unit leadership and has lived in Middle East, Asia, Africa and Europe. 

Rajeev has a Bachelor of Engineering (Electronics and Communications) from Manipal Institute of Technology, India. He was born in India in 1967, is a Singaporean citizen and is based in Espoo, Finland. He is also a United Nation’s Broadband Commissioner, and is a vocal proponent of the opportunities broadband offers to enhance how people live and work.

With extensive experience in business transformation; in establishing operational excellence in diverse global markets; and in creating and implementing strategies for growth and sustained profitability, Samih is known as a strategic and results-oriented senior executive. Since assuming the role of Chief Financial and Operating Officer at Nokia Solutions and Networks, Samih presided over the company’s ongoing turnaround and transformation, enabling the firm to over-deliver on its original cost-savings target and to establish sound profitability, cash management and operating cost control.

Samih has more than two decades of senior experience in the telecommunications industry. Before joining Nokia Solutions and Networks, he served as a senior advisor to leading private equity and global management consulting firms, focusing on investments and improving operational performance within the telecommunications sector.

Born in Lebanon, Samih holds degrees in Electrical Engineering (telecommunications) and Economics from the University of Ottawa, Canada along with a master’s degree in Electrical Engineering (telecommunications) from the École Polytechnique de Montréal. He is based in Germany, is married and has two children. His pastimes include world music, travelling, walking and golf.

Prior to his role as the President of Fixed Networks, Federico was President of Alcatel-Lucent Spain and head of the Telefónica account team. In 2009, Federico became Vice President of Sales for Vertical Market Sales in Western Europe.

From 2007–2009, Federico led the Regional Support Centre within Alcatel-Lucent’s Fixed Access Division for “Europe and South” (South Europe, India, CALA, Middle East and Africa region). Prior to this, from 2003 to 2007, Federico was Chief Executive Officer of Alcatel Mexico and Telmex Global Account Manager, based in Mexico City.

Born in 1963, Federico holds a degree in Telecommunications Engineering and a Master’s degree in Switching & Communication Architectures from the ETSIT at the Polytechnic University of Madrid. He also holds a Masters in International Management from ESC Lyon and Alcatel. In his spare time he enjoys golf, chess, listening to all kind of music and spending time with his family.

Basil Alwan was President of IP Routing and Transport at Alcatel-Lucent. Alcatel-Lucent’s IP Routing and Transport revenues exceeded $5 billion across IP, Transport, Video and Cloud/Data Center technologies during his tenure.

Basil joined Alcatel in 2003 through the acquisition of privately held TiMetra Networks. TiMetra was a venture-backed Silicon Valley start-up focused on service routers for IP/MPLS networks where he was founder, President and CEO. Since the acquisition Basil and the team from TiMetra have steadily grown Alcatel-Lucent’s IP routing business. The business has gained market share consistently for a decade; from entry Alcatel-Lucent attained the #2 position in service provider IP/MPLS routing with more than 400 customers in 120+ countries around the world.

Born 1962, Basil is a recognized industry leader who enjoys working with entrepreneurs and sharing views on networking technology and industry evolution. He graduated from the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana, in 1984, with a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering.

Bhaskar Gorti

Bhaskar oversaw Alcatel-Lucent’s business units that developed technologies for cloud-based networking and virtualization, including network functions virtualization (NFV), as well as Communications and Collaborations suites, Operational Support Systems (OSS), Charging/Policy/Payments portfolio, Customer Experience Management, Network Performance and Intelligence, and the Cyber-Security monitoring and prevention software platforms.

Previously, Bhaskar was Senior Vice-President and General Manager of Oracle Communications Global Business Unit. He had been with Portal Software since 2002 and led the sale to Oracle in 2006 to form the Communications business at Oracle. Prior to Oracle, Bhaskar had extensive experience in the Software and ICT Industry at Chordiant/OnDemand, Hewlett Packard and Alcoa.

Bhaskar holds a Master of Science graduate degree in Electrical Engineering from Virginia Tech, USA and a Bachelor’s in Technology, Electrical Engineering, from National Institute of Technology, Warangal, India.

Timo is responsible for financial matters of the Nokia Group including external and internal reporting, business performance reviews and capital allocation. He also oversees Investor relations, M&A, Treasury and Nokia Growth Partners. He has been a member of the Nokia Leadership Team since 2007.

Timo joined Nokia in 1993 as a manager in the Dealing and Risk Management unit. In 1999, after three years away, he rejoined Nokia as director of Corporate Finance, and the following year was named vice president, Finance, and Corporate Treasurer. In 2004, he was appointed senior vice president of Nokia's CDMA business, based in San Diego, California.

In 2007, he moved to New York to lead sales and portfolio management in Mobile Phones, and was named Nokia's Head of Global Sales the following year.

Before joining Nokia, Timo worked as an analyst for Kansallis Bank in Helsinki and for Citibank as Vice President of Nordic Derivatives Sales in London. Timo holds graduate degrees in economics and finance, having completed all doctoral courses in Finance at the Helsinki School of Economics.

Timo was born in 1966, in Helsinki, Finland. He is married and has three children. In his spare time, he enjoys tennis, skiing, reading and spending time with his family.

Born in 1960, Hans-Jürgen is a German native, and is based out of Espoo. He is married with two sons, and enjoys sports and outdoor activities such as skiing and jogging.

Her responsibilities include market forecasting, competitor intelligence, portfolio watch, corporate business development and leading the company’s overall efforts in the Internet of Things. Kathrin was instrumental in developing the company’s turnaround strategy.

Born 1980, Kathrin has previously held senior positions in strategy, financial management, M&A, in-house consulting and business development at NSN, Siemens and EADS.

Ashish has 25 years of international experience in the Enterprise and Telecom sectors. As Chief Business Officer, he was responsible for Nokia Networks’ sales and operations globally.

He has held various leadership positions, including Head of Asia Middle East & Africa and prior to that, Head of Global Services Business Unit. Both these units contributed nearly half of the company’s revenues and were key to the successful transformation of Nokia. Ashish thrives on building high performance teams and delivering strong execution. He has been a member of the executive board of Nokia Networks and NSN since 2009.

Born in 1965, Ashish holds an undergraduate degree in Mathematics from the University of Delhi, India; Master’s degree in Computer Science from the Emory University, Atlanta; and Master’s degree in Business Administration from the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia.

Marc has over 20 years of international management experience in the telecommunications industry, having held positions in R&D, customer operations and product management in the U.S., France and Finland. Showing clear strategic and tactic leadership in complex commercial and technical markets, Marc has turned around large businesses to achieve growth and profitability in competitive environments. He has a strong experience in joint ventures and mergers, from NSN, Alcatel-Lucent, Alcatel Fujitsu’s Evolium joint venture, which he headed, and Nortel Matra Cellular.

For the last years, Marc has lead Nokia’s Mobile broadband business, successfully shifting the investment focus to new technologies, opened up the company to the open ecosystem thus accelerating time to market, improved the company’s R&D efficiency significantly every year, implemented a strong quality culture and worked to become Employer of choice in each R&D site.

Born in 1963 Marc holds a Ph.D. in Information Theory from University of Notre Dame, Indiana, U.S., an Engineering degree in Signal Processing from Supélec, France, and he is a graduate in Computer Science from Université d’Orsay, France. As an admitted lawyer in Italy and England, Maria started her career in private practice in both countries, and she also lectured international contract law at the University of Florence, Italy.

Maria was born in 1970. In her free time, Maria likes to be in her house in Sicily with her family.
